Modeling of ammonia removal from wastewater using air stripping/modified clinoptilolite: reusability, optimization, isotherm, kinetic, and equilibrium studies

Excess chemical and natural fertilizer could create eutrophication of surface waters then depletion the quality water. The present study aimed to survey removal efficiency ammonia from aqueous solution using modified clinoptilolite air stripping process optimization variables by response methodology. Clinoptilolite was obtained Semnan (Northeast Iran) with sodium chloride (to an adsorbent uniform) ferric (due three valent iron) as efficient simple method. characterized scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometer, fluorescence, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Employing for showed that increasing dose, contact time, pH decreasing initial concentration, has been increased. In optimum condition, able adsorb high 86.04% at dose 1 g/L, 5, a time 3.7 h, concentration 13.27 mg/L. Also, sorption capacity condition 96.14%. This can properly treat effluent stabilization ponds real wastewater (about 70% ammonium removal), order reduction effect cations includes K+ > Ca2+ Na+ Mg2+, respectively. findings followed Freundlich isotherm intraparticle diffusion kinetic model. According results, effective reusable adsorbent, be appropriately employed wastewater.
